The Giza plateau in the morning window — the hour I always recommend for the Pyramids.
Weather forecasts for Egypt online are almost always five degrees off, because most weather apps pull data from Cairo airport — which is in the desert northeast of the city and reads hotter than anywhere tourists actually stand. Here is what you will really feel this month, based on 30 years of showing up at temple gates at 6am.

Cairo & Giza right now
Expect daytime temperatures roughly 30–36°C in the shade, dropping to a comfortable 20–24°C after sunset. Humidity is low, so it feels much cooler than the same number in Southeast Asia. Skies are clear, dust is minimal outside khamaseen windows (short spring sandstorms — not this month), and there is a light breeze most afternoons on the Giza plateau. I still guide the Pyramids in the morning slot, 7–11am, then move guests to a shaded museum or lunch until 4pm.
Luxor, Aswan and the Nile valley
Warmer than Cairo — usually 3–5°C hotter in the shade during the day, but the evenings on a Nile cruise deck are magical. Temple visits at Karnak, Valley of the Kings and Abu Simbel should be done at opening (6am is not too early) or after 3pm. Bring an SPF 50, a wide-brim hat, and a lightweight long-sleeve shirt — I have seen more sunburn on Nordic guests in Luxor than everywhere else combined. The Nile itself is around 23–26°C and the north wind on deck is a constant reprieve.
Hurghada, El Gouna, Sahl Hasheesh, Marsa Alam
Air temperature is very similar to Cairo, but the Red Sea coast benefits from a permanent northerly breeze that makes it feel five degrees cooler. Sea temperature this month sits at 26–28°C — swim-suit weather from 8am to sunset. Wind picks up in the afternoons which is why Hurghada and Soma Bay are world-class kitesurfing spots this time of year. Snorkelling and diving conditions are excellent; visibility 20–30m.
Sharm El Sheikh & South Sinai
Sharm sits in a natural amphitheatre of mountains and is slightly hotter and less windy than Hurghada. Sea temperature 27–29°C. Best snorkelling months on the Ras Mohamed reefs. If you plan the Mount Sinai sunrise hike, nighttime temperatures at the summit drop to around 8–12°C even this month — take a fleece, gloves are optional but nice.
Alexandria and the Mediterranean coast
Always the cool corner of Egypt. Expect 5–8°C less than Cairo, plus real humidity from the sea. Perfect this month if you're combining classical sites with a beach afternoon. The Bibliotheca is air-conditioned; the fish restaurants along the corniche are open until midnight.
What to actually pack
For this month: two pairs of lightweight trousers or long skirts, three loose linen or cotton shirts (long sleeves protect from sun and mosque etiquette), one warm layer for cruise decks and desert evenings, sandals plus one closed pair for temple floors, wide-brim hat, polarised sunglasses, SPF 50, a reusable water bottle (all our tour vehicles carry cold bottled water anyway), a small daypack, and modest swimwear for pool and beach. Skip the umbrella — no rain expected.
One thing weather apps get wrong
'Feels like' numbers overstate the discomfort here because humidity is so low. 35°C in Cairo is genuinely more pleasant than 30°C in Rome in August. Trust your own body once you land, drink two litres of water before lunch, and take a proper break in shade every couple of hours at the outdoor sites.

Expert Tip
Don't trust the Cairo airport temperature reading — it's out in the desert and typically reads 3–5°C hotter than where you'll actually stand. My rule: subtract 3°C from any forecast for Zamalek, Giza plateau and any shaded café.

Frequently asked questions
Is it too hot to visit the Pyramids this month?
No, provided you go at opening (7am) and drink plenty of water. By 11am we move guests indoors to the Grand Egyptian Museum for the hottest part of the day.
Can I swim in the Red Sea this month?
Yes — sea temperature is 26–29°C along the whole Egyptian Red Sea coast. Snorkelling and diving conditions are excellent.
Do I need warm clothes anywhere in Egypt right now?
One light layer is enough — evenings on a Nile cruise deck, air-conditioned museums, and desert nights at Bahariya or Sinai can feel chilly compared to the daytime heat.
Is there any rain expected in Egypt this month?
Effectively none. Alexandria might see a passing shower, but Cairo south to Aswan and along the Red Sea it is dry, dry, dry.
How does Cairo weather compare to Dubai?
Cairo is drier and slightly cooler in real feel. Both are hot at midday; Cairo's low humidity makes shaded areas genuinely comfortable.
Are Nile cruises comfortable in the heat this month?
Very. Cabins are strong air-con, top decks have shade and a permanent north wind, and temple visits are timed around the heat. Some of my favourite cruise trips have been this month for exactly this reason.
